Vol. 443 No. 2

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

65 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be entitled to an increased suckler cow quota under new regulations.

The person named applied for additional suckler cow quota from the special reserve for small scale milk producers. He declared that he had 38 cows on his holding on 1 April 1993 and that he used 14 of these to produce his milk quota. Twenty of the remaining cows were dairy type (Friesians) but only seven of these were reckonable for grant and quota purposes on the basis that he had been paid on seven Friesians in 1990 and under EU Regulations he is allowed to include that number of dairy type cows up to and including 1994. The remaining four cows were non-dairy type animals making a total of 11 eligible cows. As he had already established a quota of ten premium rights, based on his 1992 application, he will now be allocated one extra premium right from the reserve making his total suckler cow quota 11 premium rights.
