Vol. 443 No. 2

Written Answers. - St. Bridgid's Primary School, Kilcoole, County Wicklow.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

91 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education, in view of the up-to-date information received from St. Bridgid's girls primary school, Kilcoole, County Wicklow, which shows that unless this school is allowed retain the ninth assistant it cannot adhere to the Department's guidelines regarding maximum class size, if she will now give approval to retain the ninth assistant; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

As I outlined in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 146 on 26 April 1994, the staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.

Information outlining the school's projected enrolment for September 1994 was submitted to my Department. I regret to inform you that the projected enrolment indicates that the new maximum class size guidelines will not be breached in September 1994. The ninth assistant will therefore remain on the panel for re-deployment.
