Vol. 443 No. 3

Irish Nationality and Citizenship (No. 2) Bill, 1994: First Stage.

I move: "That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts, 1956 to 1994."

I wish to oppose that Bill because I believe it ought to be debated.

The Government has no objection to discussing the Bill in the normal way during Private Members' time.

I repeat my opposition.

The Deputies opposite were snookered.

They should learn the tactics.

May it please the court.

The Deputy's party let the rabbit out of the hat to oppose the Bill.

I observe and I have heard Deputy Rabbitte indicate opposition to this proposal. Accordingly, the debate is adjourned in accordance with Standing Orders to the next day on which Private Members' Business is to be taken.

Agreed and ordered accordingly.
