Vol. 444 No. 1

Written Answers. - Swinford (Mayo) School.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

150 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has to keep open a school (details supplied) in County Mayo.

My Department keeps under constant review the future viability of small schools in the context of falling enrolments, demographic trends, etc.

The school referred to by the Deputy has a total enrolment of only 15 pupils this year and it is anticipated that the situation is unlikely to improve in the foreseeable future.

In the circumstances my Department is currently in communication with the local managerial authorities regarding the future of the school in question.
