37 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the commitment given in the Programme for Partnership Government 1993-1997; the number of local authorities which have produced a cultural development plan; the number which have still to do so; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
38 Miss Quill asked the Minister for the Environment the number of local authorities with which he has had formal discussions in relation to their five year arts development plans.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.
There is a range of proposals in the Programme for a Partnership Government concerning the arts and culture to be implemented through the local authorities over the period of the programme.
My Department has initiated consultations with the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht on a basis for implementing these proposals. As this process develops, the local authorities will be consulted.
I have no information on the number of local authorities who have produced cultural development plans nor have I yet had any formal discussions with them in relation to arts-cultural matters generally.
