Vol. 444 No. 1

Written Answers. - Marine Policy Discussions.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

86 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for the Marine if he has been requested by representatives of the Docks Marine and Transport Branch of SIPTU to meet him for the purpose of discussing marine policy in Ireland; if so, the reason he has not met such a delegation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have invited the unions to participate fully in the current review of shipping policy and substantive discussions are now underway on the issues involved. I have also indicated my willingness to meet representatives of SIPTU at an early date. Further discussions are now scheduled to be held between Department officials and SIPTU on 22 June next which will, inter alia, prepare the ground for such a meeting.
