Ceist:146 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the provision of a remedial teacher for the Cross, Cong and Neale national schools in County Mayo.
Written Answers. - Remedial Teaching Posts.
I recently announced the appointment of 100 additional remedial teachers to primary schools, with effect from September next. This will bring to 1,133 the total number of remedial teachers in place in the primary sector.
The posts were allocated on the basis of priority of need, following the collection and analysis of data from schools by my Department's primary inspectorate. Unfortunately, the schools mentioned by the Deputy were not successful on this occasion.
I will be keeping the question of further need in this area under review as parts of a broader commitment to appoint a substantial number of additional teachers in the coming years. The needs of all schools, including the schools mentioned by the Deputy, will be considered in this context.
