71 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine if drift net fishermen in Keam Bay in Achill, County Mayo, will be given an extra week's fishing this year after the official closing date in view of the fact that an extra week's fishing has been given to other fishing ports along the west coast.
I assume the question relates to drift net fishing for salmon. The salmon drift net fishermen along the west coast already have the benefit of a very lengthy season which extends from 15 March until 25 July and I do not consider that any logical argument can be made for extending their season further. It is not the case that other fishing ports along the west coast have been given an extra week's fishing this year.
