Vol. 444 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin Airport Landing Fees.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

110 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has recently approved any change in landing fees at Dublin Airport; and if there was a requirement for approval of a recent landing fee in excess of £2,000 for a single aircraft (details supplied).

In February, 1994 I approved the introduction by Aer Rianta of a major traffic incentive scheme for airlines at the three State airports. This scheme offers specific discounts on passenger load fees for existing/new routes and on aircraft landing charges for new routes.

Aircraft landing charges are payable on the basis of the maximum permissible loaded aircraft weight. My approval is not required for individual landing fees as this constitutes part of the day-to-day administration of Aer Rianta. I understand that the landing fee in question related to the wide-bodied freight aircraft which transported a train engine recently for delivery to Iarnród Éireann. This aircraft was subject to standard landing charges and no special exemptions or discounts applied in this case.
