Vol. 444 No. 5

Written Answers. - Electricity Prices.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

114 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will give details of Irish industrial and domestic electricity prices; if such prices are likely to remain; the comparison figures for EU member states; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The ESB gave a range of tariffs for industrial and domestic electrity customers details of which are available from ESB headquarters or local ESB offices.

In relation to whether the existing electricity prices will remain, as I have stated on a number of occasions, no decisions will be taken on a price adjustment to electricity costs until the cost and competitiveness review of the ESB is completed later this year.

The following are average industrial and domestic electricity prices for EU member states based on a survey compiled by the Union of Producers and Distributors of Electrical Energy in January, 1994.

Small Industry IR pence per kilowatt hour

Medium Industry IR pence per kilowatt hour

Large Industry IR pence per kilowatt hour
