Vol. 444 No. 6

Written Answers. - FDS Costs.

Seán Doherty

Ceist:

139 Mr. Doherty asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total amount of moneys paid in FDS visit charges to the Department of Agriculture by farmers in each county in the year ending 30 October 1993, the total amount paid in expenses including travel and subsistence to the FDS section in each county; and the amount of travel and subsistence paid to agricultural officer and higher agricultural officer grades on FDS duties in each county, to supervisor agricultural officer and district superintendent grades, to each area superintendent, to each regional inspector and to any other personnel on FDS duties.

The total amount paid by farmers in 1993 in respect of FDS farm visits was £0.509 million. Total expenditure on travel and subsistence to staff in the FDS group in 1993 was in the region of £0.8 million.

A detailed breakdown of receipts by county and expenditure by grade and by county for year ending 30 October 1993 is not readily available in the format requested. Given the other pressing demands on my Department's services, the use of scarce resources to compile the information requested would not be justified.
