Vol. 444 No. 6

Written Answers. - Developing the West Together Report.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

157 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the consideration, if any, he has given to the recommendations in the report, Developing the West Together, in so far as they relate to matters for which he and agencies under his control are responsible; and, if so, the outcome of that consideration.

The study Developing the West Together, was assessed by a Government appointed task force whose report concerning sectoral policy issues has been considered by the Government. The implementation process in respect of the vast majority of the task force recommendations including those relating to the tourism sector, is ongoing as part of existing sectoral policies or is planned as part of the measures to be undertaken in the National Development Plan.

As already announced by the Government, immediate action is being taken on a number of policy issues. The new Western Development Partnership Board is being established. The relevant agencies within the region, including Bord Fáilte, will be required to prepare detailed responses to a new action plan for the region to be prepared by the partnership board.
