Vol. 444 No. 6

Written Answers. - Higher Diploma in Education Course.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

199 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if she has had the promised meeting with the Higher Education Authority to discuss the difficulties arising from the restricted intake of students for the Higher Diploma in Education course for 1994-95.

I am meeting the Chairman of the Higher Education Authority on Friday next, 1 July, to discuss a number of matters.

In relation to the intake of students to the Higher Education Diploma in Education courses in the coming academic year I can only refer the Deputy to my reply to questions on 31 May and 14 June in which I indicated that the number of places in postgraduate teacher training in 1994 will be 980. I went on to state that this is a reduction of 47 on the total number of places for postgraduate training in 1993 and an increase of over two hundred for 1991 and 1992 and indeed is a significant increase for all the previous years back to 1988.
