The total amount of EU Structural Fund aid received by Ireland under the last round of EU Structural Funds was IR£3,305 million. Of this approximately IR£747 million, being 22.59 per cent of the total, was attributable to expenditure in the Dublin region. These figures are based on the actual expenditure for 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 and the forecast for 1993.
The Community Support Framework element of the Structural Funds 1994-1999 for Ireland has been negotiated on the basis of 5.62 billion ECU or IR£4.54 billion in 1994 prices. This is an indicative amount and may be subject to adjustment during the implementation period. As regards the Community initiatives element of the Structural Funds 1994-1999, no allocations to member states have yet been made. The overall allocation for the Dublin region is not available at this time.
However, it should be noted that in drawing up the National Development Plan, the Government was determined to ensure that the development strategy adopted should promote balanced regional development. An indicative breakdown of expenditure by sub-region over the plan period 1994-1999, would give Dublin some 26 per cent of total structural expenditure including Cohesion Fund resources and Community Initiatives.
