Vol. 444 No. 7

Written Answers. - Prosecution of Traffic Offences.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

62 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment his views on whether the system of traffic fines has broken down in Dublin District Courts; and in view of traffic problems in Dublin, the way in which he intends to remedy and restore this system.

The prosecution of alleged traffic offences in Dublin is a matter for the Garda. I am aware, however, that difficulties have arisen in the Dublin District Court in relation to the prosecution of these offences. Action has been taken to address these difficulties, including the insertion of new provisions on certificates, and their evidential value, in the Finance Act, 1994. The question of making complementary amending regulations is under consideration.
