149 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction a remote area grant for persons (details supplied) in County Mayo who live 2.1 miles away from the school and who previously were getting school transport which was withdrawn because of a reduction in the number of eligible children.

Under the rules of the school transport scheme, the remote area grant may be paid only in cases where the applicant lives at least three miles from the school. The family who are the subject of the Deputy's question live only 2.1 miles away and are, accordingly, ineligible.
