Ceist:150 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the number of schools in County Mayo that have remedial teachers; and the number that have not got remedial teachers.

At present, 81 primary schools in County Mayo have the services of a remedial teacher. This includes 22 schools which will receive the services of a remedial teacher from September next as part of the recent allocation of 100 additional remedial posts. As a result of this latest allocation, 62 per cent of pupils attending ordinary primary schools in County Mayo will have access to the services of a remedial teacher.
There are 107 schools in County Mayo which currently do not have the services of a remedial teacher. The needs of these schools will be considered in the context of any future allocation of remedial posts.
