Vol. 444 No. 7

Written Answers. - PAYE Data.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

37 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the number of PAYE employees paying income tax; the number of these who received income from more than one employer; and if this information is available in respect of employees of State and semi-State organisations.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that an estimated 790,000 taxpaying units will pay income tax under PAYE in respect of the income tax year 1994-95.

Statistics are not recorded or processed in a manner which would allow the breakdown of this number between employees with one or more employers or between State and semi-State employees to be provided. Such information could not be obtained without undertaking enquiries which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.

However, from the available information it is estimated that some 7 per cent of individuals in PAYE have a subsidiary employment as well as a principal employment.
