Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Official Journeys Abroad.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

175 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Social Welfare the official journeys abroad which will be undertaken by him or any Minister of State attached to his Department between now and the end of the year; the purpose of each journey; and the projected cost of each journey. [630/94]

At the invitation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, I will be addressing the General Assembly in New York on 18 October 1994. As part of the UN's programme for the International Year of the Family, the General Assembly will be devoting a special session to "the Implementation of the Follow-up to the International Year of the Family".

I have also been invited by the German Presidency to address the International Conference on "Working and Caring: Developments at the Workplace for Family Carers of Disabled and Elderly Persons" which will be held in Bonn on 24 and 25 November 1994. This conference is being organised jointly by the German Ministry for Family and Seniors and the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions as part of their contribution to the International Year of the Family.

As the details of the travel arrangements have not yet been finalised, it is not possible to give the projected costs of these visits.

The Minister of State at my Department is currently accompanying the President on her State visit to Tanzania. Final costs are not currently available. The Minister of State has no proposals for any further official journeys this year.
