Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irishtown (Dublin) Garda Statistics.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

186 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice the number of patrol cars and the number of gardaí attached to Irishtown Garda Station, Dublin 4; the area covered by the station; and the approximate population served by the station. [297/94]

The Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda manpower and resources, inform me that four mobile units are attached to Irishtown Garda Station comprising a patrol car, a detective car, a patrol van and a motorcycle. I should also say that the detective car attached to Donnybrook station patrols the Irishtown sub-district as part of its duties. The current strength at the station is 64 gardaí which represents an increase of 13 over the manpower allocation at the end of 1992. This includes seven additional gardaí who were assigned to the station recently and this has enabled more foot patrols to be provided in the area. The station serves an area of about seven square kilometres and has a population of approximately 23,500.
