Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Headford (Galway) Garda Presence.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

205 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice if she has satisfied herself with the level of Garda presence and Garda facilities operating in the Headford District of County Galway; and if she will make a statement on the matter in respect of the improvements, if any, which will be carried out there. [522/94]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda manpower to individual areas, that the current Garda manpower at Headford is one sergeant and three gardaí. There is a Garda car attached to Headford station and mobile patrols are performed throughout the sub-district. These are augmented by patrols performed by the patrol car from Mill Street Garda Station. In addition, the Headford area is patrolled on a regular basis by the District Traffic Corps.

Headford station is open to the public from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on weekdays and from 12.00 noon to 1.00 p.m. on Sundays. Outside of these times, the gardaí at Mill Street can be contacted by using the direct communication link at Headford Garda Station. Local Garda management are satisfied that the facilities and accommodation at Headford station are adequate and that the current manpower level is sufficient to meet the policing needs of the area.
