Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Listowel (Kerry) Water Supply.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

232 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction plans submitted by Listowel Urban Council to improve the water supply at O'Connell's Avenue and St. Brendan's Terrace, Listowel, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [166/94]

A preliminary report for Listowel water supply improvement scheme is currently under consideration in my Department.

The question of funding for this scheme, and for water services projects generally, has been considered in the context of the resources available under the National Development Plan. The high level of existing commitments and the demands of schemes already prioritised for investment account for all finance available to the water services programme at present. Therefore, it is not possible to provide funding for this scheme at this stage. However, the position will be regularly reviewed during the period of the National Development Plan.
