Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - South Eastern Motorway Construction.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

246 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the construction of the South-Eastern motorway; his views on whether a public motorways inquiry will take place in 1995; the anticipated date on which construction of the South-Eastern motorway will commence; and the anticipated date on which the motorway will be completed and open to traffic. [381/94]

It is a matter for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, in conjunction with the National Roads Authority, to prepare proposals for the construction of the South Eastern motorway in accordance with the provisions of the Roads Act, 1993. I am awaiting submission of the council's proposals in respect of the motorway scheme. The holding of a local inquiry will not arise until these proposals have been received.

The project is included in the indicative list of projects in the Operational Programme for Transport, 1994-1999, and, subject to the statutory procedures involved and the provision of funding by the authority, is scheduled to be constructed over the period 1998-2000.
