I am satisfied that the observance by Irish manufacturers of the World Health Organisation Code on marketing of infant formula, including artificial baby milk, ensures that these products are not promoted otherwise than through the health care system.
Regulations will shortly be made to give effect to two EU Directives regulating infant formulae. These regulations will not explicitly prohibit direct advertising but will provide for the formal recognition of codes of practice, such as the current WHO one.
