Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Delay in Ophthalmic Treatment.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

433 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in the provision of a cataract operation in respect of a person (details suplied) in County Mayo. [516/94]

The patient concerned is on the in-patient waiting list for ophthalmic treatment at University College Hospital, Galway, and is due to be called for admission in early November 1994. The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of hospital admissions is a matter for the consultant concerned and each patient is assessed to determine medical priority. Should the patient feel concerned that his condition has deteriorated he should return to his general practitioner who is in the best position to emphasise the urgency of his case to the consultant directly.
