Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Westmeath School Appointment.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

467 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that Rathowen national school, County Westmeath is considered favourably for a shared remedial teacher when she is next allocating remedial teachers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [344/94]

In the current year, I have announced the appointment of an additional 100 remedial teachers to the primary sector. This brings the total number of such teachers now in place to 1,133. These appointments were made on the basis of priority of need, following the collection of data from schools by my Department's primary inspectorate.

My Department has no record of an application for a shared remedial teacher from Rathowen national school. However, if the school submits details of its request, it will be considered when I am next in a position to allocate additional remedial teacher posts.
