Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Trade.

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

79 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade his views on the possible creation of a Dublin-Belfast economic corridor to promote cross-Border trade; if his Department has carried out or plans to carry out a feasibility study of such a proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4/94]

A major study to ascertain the possibilities for developing an economic corridor, linking Belfast and Dublin, was commissioned by IBEC and the CBI in Northern Ireland last year. I understand that the consultant's report is due to be published in the coming weeks.

I look forward to examining their findings, particularly in the context of the Government's ongoing efforts to develop cross-Border trade, and to enhance and develop existing economic linkages between north and south.
