Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

90 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, he has to introduce special measures to promote an upgrading of tourism products in seaside holiday resorts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [712/94]

The Operational Programme for Tourism which I launched on 20 September last outlines the strategy for tourism development over the next six years. The Product Development Sub-Programme includes a measure which will support the development, at regional level, of a number of stand-alone, high profile projects, in traditional and developing tourist centres, which would attract visitors to the area. Support will also be available for improvements to existing attractions and for developing smaller complementary projects which would add to the appeal of certain centres. Furthermore, special interest holiday facilities in these areas may, under certain conditions, also benefit from support.
