Vol. 445 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Effects of Mobile Phones.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

55 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health if his Department is informed about the debate over the possible health effects of mobile telephones and the mast installations which carry their signals; and if his Department has carried out any tests to help them draw conclusions in this regard. [914/94]

I am aware of concern expressed over the possible health effects of electro-magnetic radiation emissions associated with mobile phones and their signal transmitters. The subject of possible adverse health effects from electro-magnetic fields from whatever source is monitored on an ongoing basis by the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications. I am advised that the general body of evidence to date has not concluded that emissions from such sources have adverse health effects.
