Written Answers. - Health Insurance Legislation.
I am currently in the process of preparing legislation to amend the Voluntary Health Insurance Act, 1957, in the context of the report of the VHI Review Group, which I appointed to make recommendations on the changes necessary to equip VHI to operate successfully following passage of the Health Insurance Act, 1994 giving effect to the EU Single Market in health insurance. The proposed legislation is designed to enhance the VHI's ability to compete effectively in the Single Market and to amend certain of the provisions in the current legislation governing the board and its operations. I hope to introduce the legislation in the coming months.
