Vol. 445 No. 7

Written Answers. - Child Sexual Abuse.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

104 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health whether the inquiry into allegations of child abuse at St. Joseph's School for the Deaf in Dublin has yet been completed; whether a report will be received by him in relation to these allegations; whether he intends to publish the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [553/94]

The Eastern Health Board is investigating allegations of child sexual abuse at one of the residential units at St. Joseph's School for the Deaf, Cabra. This investigation is ongoing and will not be completed for some time yet due to the particular communication difficulties with the children concerned.

The Garda were notified as soon as the allegations came to light and I understand that their investigation is also ongoing.
