Vol. 445 No. 7

Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) Hospital.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

160 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has for the upgrading of Naas General Hospital, County Kildare, with particular reference to the implementation of the remaining phases of the development programme; if the facilities to be provided at the hospital will be sufficient to meet the growing needs of expanding population in the catchment area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1006/94]

The development control plan for Naas General Hospital was received in my Department in December 1986. It was proposed at that time to develop the hospital in four separate phases. Construction work on the first phase of the development consisting of a psychiatric unit, boiler house and ancillary facilities commenced in 1988 and was completed and commissioned in December, 1991 at a total cost of £3.3 million. In 1993, a joint Department/Eastern Health Board Review Group was established to examine the remaining stages of the development plan for the hospital, and I have recently received the group's report which is under consideration in my Department at present.

The issues which the Deputy has raised will form part of my consideration of the review group's report.
