73 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications when sanction will be given to the new improved pension scheme for Irish Rail workers which was sent to his Department for approval several months ago. [1827/94]
CIE submitted proposals to improve terms and restructure a number of pension schemes in late 1993. Following detailed examination, discussion and evaluation, involving officials of my own Department and the Department of Finance whose agreement to any amendments is necessary a number of proposed amendments were conveyed to CIE management in July. In August, CIE requested clarification on a number of issues in relation to these amendments. These are now being considered by officials of the Department of Finance. When the proposals are finalised, I expect to be in a position to approve them without delay.
