Vol. 446 No. 3

Written Answers. - Breaches of Driving Light Regulations.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

173 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice the number of convictions that have been brought against motorists for breach of the law while driving with undipped headlights; if she is aware of the difficulties this presents for many drivers at night; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2151/94]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of convictions recorded against motorists for breach of the law while driving with undipped headlights is not readily available.

However, the Commissioner's crime report shows for 1993 that there were 11,543 prosecutions for breaches of the lighting regulations involving mechanically propelled vehicles in 1993. That figure includes prosecutions for breaches of the law relating to the dipping of headlights.
