Ceist:

163 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons reported missing to the gardaí in each of the years 1983 to 1993 whose whereabouts have not subsequently been traced; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2004/94]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the information sought is as follows:

Year	Number of persons reported missing in each year who have not been traced as of 20 October 1994.
1983	15
1984	14
1985	10
1986	17
1987	13
1988	16
1989	9
1990	15
1991	23
1992	12
1993	9

The number of persons who have not been traced should be seen in the context of the number of persons reported missing. For instance, in 1993, 1,530 persons were reported missing. However, as can be seen from the above, all but nine of these persons had been traced by 20 October 1994.
