Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rush (Dublin) Chapel Restoration.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

176 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will have arrangements made to make a grant available to the St. Maur's Trust Limited which is restoring the St. Maur's old chapel in Rush for the community in view of the fact that this is an old historic monument which was saved from demolition by this worthy group. [2472/94]

I understand that an application for grant assistance was submitted by St. Maur's Trust Limited, Rush, County Dublin, to the National Heritage Council in March 1989 and again in March 1991 in respect of St. Maur's Chapel, Rush. Those applications were considered by the National Heritage Council but I understand that grant assistance was not recommended on either occasion and the applicants were so informed.

A further application dated 30 October 1994 has now been received by the National Heritage Council and will be given full consideration. I should point out that a decision about whether or not to recommend grant assistance is a matter solely for that body.
