Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special School Transport.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

192 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has not received a grant towards transport costs to attend a special school. [2505/94]

In reply to Parliamentary Question No. 204 of 29 June 1994, I told the Deputy that, given the circumstances of this particular case, I would be prepared to consider paying a grant for part, if not all, of the cost of a taxi to bring this pupil to and from school.

I explained that the grant would be paid at the end of the school-year, on receipt of a certificate of attendance from the school authorities. I also said that if the pupil's parent would forward receipts to the transport section of my Department, the application would be considered immediately. Since this documentation has not so far been received in my Department, no grant has yet been paid.
