Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

205 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if school transport services will be available to all pupils attending Knockavilla national school, County Cork, for the remainder of the current school year. [2717/94]

It is a condition of the primary school transport scheme that there must be sufficient number of eligible children residing in a distinct locality who are available for transport in order to maintain a school transport service. Currently, nine eligible children are available for transport from the areas mentioned to Knockavilla national school, but this number is expected to drop to seven by Christmas, 1994. As this is below the minimum number of ten required for the establishment, or maintenance, of a service under the school transport scheme, the question of the continuance of the service must be kept under review, on a quarterly basis. The service will be carefully monitored by my officials between November 1994 and Easter, 1995, to see if the required number of pupils will become available by that time.
