Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Facilities.

35 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine the progress that has been made with regard to the development of new terminal facilities at Dún Laoghaire Harbour; the timetable for the completion of the work; and the effect the judicial review will have on the development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The main works contract for the ferry terminal development project in Dún Laoghaire Harbour was placed at the end of July 1994. It is planned to have the construction work completed by May 1995.

Thirteen weeks of the 44 week contract has now been completed. The early part of the works concentrated on dredging, sheet piling, demolition of old structures and the construction of a rock bund. This work is substantially completed. The objective is to complete the major marine works before the winter to avoid delays caused by bad weather. Preparatory work on the ferry terminal building is in progress and piling for the foundations have now been completed. The judicial review of the Bord Pleanála decision on the Dún Laoghaire ferry terminal development project is scheduled for hearing on 4 November.

It would not be appropriate for me to speculate on the outcome of the judicial review. I remain confident that the ferry terminal development project is schedcompleted in time to meet the planned start up date of the high speed service vessel on the Dún Laoghaire-Holyhead route.
