Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers' Scheme.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

66 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the application of a person (details supplied) in County Laois for inclusion under the disabled drivers scheme; if the circumstances of the applicant are in compliance with the regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2541/94]

Under the terms of the Disabled Drivers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1989, a qualifying disabled driver or passenger with severe mobility problems is entitled to certain tax concessions on acquisition of a qualifying vehicle, which requires adaptation for his use.

I am aware of the circumstances of the person referred to by the Deputy, but I understand that he does not meet all the requirements of the scheme in order to qualify for the concessions.

As the Deputy is aware, the disabled drivers' scheme has been the subject of a thorough review but I regret to say that the review, which is now completed, does not propose a change in the system which would be of direct benefit in this case.
