Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Housing Plan.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

129 Miss. Harney asked the Minister for the Environment if he will exercise his powers under section 22 of the Planing Act, 1963, to require South Dublin County Council to vary their development plan to prevent an isolated dense housing development on the foothills of the Dublin mountains for 477 houses on 20 hectares of land at Kiltipper Road, Old Bawn, Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2714/94]

My views on rezoning in County Dublin, and on the respective roles of the local authority and the Minister, are a matter of public record. I refer, in particular, to the reply to Question No. 38 of 30 November, 1993.

I understand that a specific planning application has been made for the land referred to by the Deputy. The application must be dealt with by the planning authority and, on appeal, An Bord Pleanála, in accordance with the statutory procedures. I have no power to direct either the local authority or the board as to how a particular application or appeal should be dealt with. It would be entirely inappropriate for me to attempt by other means to supplant the relevant procedures.
