Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crosshaven (Cork) Housing Accommodation.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

135 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Defence if he will have arrangements made to have the coastguard houses in Crosshaven refurbished and made available to former members of the Defence Forces to provide accommodation similar to that provided in Question Street, Dublin. [2642/94]

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 105 on 24 March 1993 and Questions Nos. 13 and 150 on 6 April 1993, ten of the 12 houses at this location are being sold. The remaining two houses, which comprise a Garda station and Garda residence, are being retained. Of the ten, five other ranks married quarters which are in the administration of the Department of Defence will shortly be offered for sale to the occupants. Negotiations for the sale by the Office of Public Works to Cork County Council of four vacant houses are at an advanced stage. Arrangements for the disposal of the remaining house have not yet been finalised by the Office of Public Works.

It is not possible, therefore, to make these houses available as suggested to former members of the Defence Forces.
