Vol. 448 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Advisory Group.

Liam Fitzgerald

Ceist:

74 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Irish Hospital Consultants' Association has rejected mandatory testing for hepatitis B; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1938/95]

Limerick East): I have, as I informed this House on 26 January, set up an advisory group under the chairmanship of the chief medical officer of my Department to make recommendations regarding the prevention of the transmission of infectious diseases in health care settings.

I met the IHCA on 17 January 1995 and the matter raised in the PQ was discussed with the association. Following this meeting the IHCA wrote to my Department about the composition of the advisory group and the views of the association in this matter are being addressed by my Department.
