Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Graiguenamanagh (Kilkenny) School.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

144 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education the steps, if any, she is taking to have arrangements made to provide a replacement building at Graiguenamanagh vocational school, County Kilkenny, where pupils had to be sent home on Friday, 27 January 1995, when the heavy rain leaked through the prefabricated buildings; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2579/95]

No report has been received in the planning and building unit of my Department regarding the closure of Graiguenamanagh vocational school due to rain penetrating the prefabricated building on 27 January 1995.

An application for permanent accommodation at the school has been received from County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee. Following a detailed examination of the application the Department has decided that, in the context of the long term enrolment at the school, the provision of permanent accommodation would not be warranted.

The Department is currently assessing how best the immediate needs can be addressed by way of repair or replacement of existing temporary accommodation and, if necessary, by the provision of additional temporary accommodation.
