Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Physical Attacks on Pupils.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

162 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education if she will investigate the case of persons (details supplied) in Dublin 22 who have been out of national school since September 1994 in view of physical attacks on them by other pupils; if she will have arrangements made to find places for these children in a suitable adjacent school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2762/95]

It is a board of management that sets the enrolment policy for a school. My Department will investigate where it is claimed that a board is operating its enrolment policy in a manner which discriminates against a particular child.

My Department has received information from the Deputy in regard to this matter during the last few days. Details of the schools which have been contacted regarding the enrolment of the children is question are, however, not known. Should my Department be supplied with details of the schools concerned, my officials will be pleased to pursue the matter with the relevant boards as a matter of urgency.

I have arranged for my office to seek further information on the matter.
