167 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education her response to the conclusion in the interim report of the steering committee's technical working group on the future development of higher education that the most urgent need for an increased provision at diploma/certificate level in the Dublin region is in the north of the city, covering an area centered on Finglas; and if she intends to make financial provision for the establishment of a new college in this area. I will be considering the future development of the higher education sector in the context of the findings of the steering committee which I set up under the aegis of the Higher Education Authority to advise me on this matter.

I have received for my information the interim report of the technical working group to the steering committee. The report represents a valuable contribution to the work of the steering committee and I look forward to receiving the steering committee's report and recommendations.
