Written Answers. - Drainage of County Lands.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

221 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total acreage of land in each county that was drained under his Department's western drainage scheme, farm modernisation scheme and any other Department scheme for which grant assistance was available for land drainage or reclamation. [2774/95]

Under the field drainage element of the western drainage scheme, which operated in less favoured areas of the west of Ireland between 1979 and 1988, 150,000 hectares of land were drained under 28,223 field drainage works. A breakdown for the relevant counties is as follows:

In relation to the farm modernisation scheme and farm improvement programme separate statistics are not available on land drainage works undertaken under the land improvement elements of these schemes.
