Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

25 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if she will consider the request from O'Connell's secondary school, North Richmond Street, Dublin 1, for one additional remedial teacher, details of which are contained in a submission (details supplied) from the teaching staff and principal of the school. [1005/95]

I understand the Deputy is referring to O'Connell's primary school.

I have noted the detailed case put forward by the principal and staff of the school in question in support of their request for an additional remedial teacher.

I can assure the Deputy that the problems which have been identified will be taken fully into account when I come to take decisions on the allocation of additional remedial posts. I hope to do so in the very near future.

I would also advise the Deputy that the school in question is one of a group of schools from the north inner city who have sought special additional support to enable them to cope with pupils with difficulties. Representatives of these schools are currently in discussion with officials of my Department in an effort to devise a suitable support package and I would hope that an initiative can be taken in this area in the near future.
