Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Health Nurses.

Séamus Hughes

Ceist:

74 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health the number of public health nurses in each health board area as a percentage of population in each health board area; and the action, if any, he proposes to take to ensure that an equal ratio prevails to provide for equality of service. [2523/95]

Limerick East): The data requested by the Deputy is set out in the attached tabular statement.

Comparisons between health board areas in the ratio of public health nurses should take account of the differences in the age structure and the density of population in each area. Consideration of the need for the employment of additional public health nurses is a matter for each health agency concerned in the first instance.

Number of Public Health Nurses per 100,000 population in each Health Board area at 31 December 1993.
