Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Geriatric Care.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

86 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to a media report, which conveyed the impression that a consultant psychiatrist may have reservations regarding the wellbeing of people in geriatric care under the Mid-Western Health Board in County Clare; and if he has satisfied himself with the level of professional care in health board institutions in the county. [2811/95]

Limerick East): I have taken this matter up with the Mid-Western Health Board. I understand from the board that the consultant psychiatrist in question said that the report in the Clare Champion was a misunderstanding between the reporter and himself. A clarification of his statement was published in the newspaper the following week which totally exonerates the staff of the board. I am satisfied that the care provided by nursing staff in the board's hospitals is of the highest professional standards.
